The Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) is facing a “humanitarian crisis” and India’s Aug 5 decision to annex the “disputed” territory has been a “disaster” for Kashmiris, stated by US Congressional panel.
Empty rhetoric from congressional leaders who have no relevance. The reality is Kashmir may not return to the Aug 5 position even if someone is willing to go to war with India. Human rights violations are always a subject of deep emotion but the congress committees has not been able to stop Israel, Turkey, Russia, China or India in this regard.
Modi is putting India on the same path as Zia put Pakistan on. The only difference is we didn’t elect ours. India is just wearing an attractive mask of democracy but underneath it has turned into an ugly country headed by supremacist who terrorizes minorities and subjects them to torture.
India’s reputation has taken a major battering. So much so that journalist and testifier Aarti Singh Tikkoo complained that it was biased against India – when in reality it is just impossible for India to justify revocation of article 370 and the blatant human rights abuse in the occupied valley.
At the hearing, no one questioned the legality of removal of article 370. The hearing mostly discussed humanitarian crisis as the result of the Indian government’s move. The state department clearly favors India. The US congress should have discussed the apathy and racial discrimination widespread in US towards blacks and Hispanics and the human rights crisis being faced by the community within. The biggest war criminal, the U.S which bombed Iraq, Syria, maimed and killed millions of people in Afghanistan talks about human rights and this is the irony.
The complete annihilation of native Indians over two centuries. Thousand blacks killed by white police personnel. Barbaric tortures in Guantanamo prison. Ditto at Al Gharaib prison. And more. Let the two cents US Senators first account for before asking any human rights questions to the world. The US congress discussing South Asian affairs is laughable. It is the height of their audacity when their own house is not in order.
However, The Kashmiris need to be given the right to self-determination at par with other human societies. Forced occupations are bound to end and perish, but only after bringing miseries to millions. I hope that Modi and his ideological cohorts understand it sooner and try to resolve Kashmir with Pakistan and more importantly, with Kashmiris on both sides being part of the process, as Kashmir only belongs to Kashmiris, rest are occupiers.
Despite New Delhi’s tough-looking posture regarding its activities in India-held Kashmir, it is quite apparent that international reactions to the Modi government’s brutal tactics in the region are beginning to hurt.
Trauma of being a captive in your own homeland is something that destroys the soul. Many armies are guilty of that with no punishment meted out. Indian Army need to be singled out. As of now there needs a major shift in people’s attitude before anything positive can come out. A lot like Europe, when people realized they were sick of fighting. Maybe the Kashmiris and the Indians and the Pakistanis would someday be tired of fighting. But till fighters are given a Hero status, and till the dead are respected as martyrs, there is little hope. The young have no interest in studies, the older and the society in general is not geared towards a productive life. Violence and getting killed and getting the famous rewards in the afterlife is more important. The end result is for all to see. Maybe once the martyrs list is so long as to individuals not being relevant, maybe once the graveyards become too crowded, maybe then the people in general would be a little critical of people who indulge in violence.370-A diplomatic Weapon
