Corona Virus and Climate Change

The whole world is currently facing a complicated life struggle due to rapidly spreading Covid-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic.

COVID-19 is causing global trade to be disrupted, flights are being cancelled, and many people are now working or staying at home. The world is facing a huge socio-economic threat with this Corona Virus outbreak as most of the economic centers and many cities of the world have been locked down with this rapidly spreading virus.

The blessing in disguise is that lock-down across the globe due to Corona Virus has likely saved thousands of lives by slashing air pollution from factories and vehicles, there is minimum emission of green house gases from the transport systems and the emission of the planet-heating gas CO2 has also fallen sharply.

The last few weeks have shown a significant drop in polluting gases like nitrogen dioxide (NO2) which is mainly produced by car engines, power plants, and other industrial processes. The river water is also amazingly getting purified in the absence of any effluent mixing in it from closed chemical factories due to lock-down.

With lock-down enforced all over the globe, the wildlife is not only thriving but nature is healing as well. It is us the humans who are over exploiting their opportunities granted by “Mother Nature’ and are constantly altering it. According to BBC Report Corona Virus will have lasting impact on environment.

It is said correctly by a researcher that, Corona is the vaccine and we are virus of the nature’. Normally a vaccine is injected to a particular living being as a medication to recover from a disease or a virus. However, here the word implies another deep meaning which we all should pay attention to.

It’s our duty that, when this lock-down will be removed and everything will come back to normal, we should use those things as less as possible by which environment is damaged. Because we should not give a polluted environment to our next generation.

Although this Corona Virus pandemic has been a period of lock-down for the minds of the people and to the complex networks and societies around them, it seems the environment is benefiting positively in some interesting and unexpected ways over the last few months. The less interference of man on the environment during this pandemic outbreak has allowed the nature to occupy its space unconditionally.

Corona virus has hit the reset button of the entire world and has done the biggest experiment on environment pollution. Hopefully, this is something the world would remember once the pandemic is over, and apply to the ways we think about environmental policies moving forward.

We hope to visualize a better scenario of pollution-less atmosphere and a pause in climate change, a slowdown in global warming in future.
