Over recent weeks, thousands of soldiers from the two countries have been facing off just a few hundred metres from each other in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. China has objected to India building a road through the valley connecting the region to an airstrip, possibly sparking its move to assert control over territory along the border that is not clearly defined in places.
China is way mightier than India, it first twisted the arm, put boots on fingers, and now India is seeking peaceful resolution through talks. A similar situation occurred, when Gen Pervez Musharraf got hold of strategic peaks at Kargil. At that occasion India was berserk, their diplomatic voices reached across oceans, and got US intervention. But at this instant India is doubly feared to even accept a US mediation offer.
It appears Pakistan is the biggest beneficiary of the recent ordeal between India & China. China will not go back even an inch. While the Article 370 abrogation is core issue between both Asian Giants, the Article 370, 35A, must be reinstated now or later, as covertly agreed between high level military leaders.
Worth mentioning that Indian top brass was against the abrogation of Art 370, 35A, and always recommended resolution of Kashmir issues through talks. It was an unfortunately bad obsessive choice of PM Modi & Amit Shah.
India provoked China in 1962 and endured shameful wounds. Today, India is foolishly needling China, Pakistan and Nepal simultaneously. Racist Modi and his fascist R.S.S. and BJP cronies must understand that this time, with the People’s Republic of China, it won’t be a “cake-walk” as in the past cases of Hyderabad Deccan, Mandhir, Junagarh, Goa, Sikkim, Siachen Glacier and the India-attacked, India-invaded, India-held, India-occupied, India-abused and India-annexed Jammu and Kashmir.
However, Xi is a much more practical man than anyone gives him credit for. There is hundreds of billions of dollars of trade at stake if there is a confrontation with India. In fact, India and China can change the narrative of confrontation that has always plagued humanity since the dawn of time. It makes sense for both countries to focus on business and help their respective populations rather than wasting time and resources on rhetoric and war mongering. In today’s time and age, economic might far exceed the military.
I view this differently. Better relations between India and China indirectly means better relations between India and Pakistan too. Having said that, in the neighborhood, there should be peace and tranquility, no fight.
