Education is essential for each and every human being in order to live unblemished life, as well as improving the social and economic status. The role of education is very important for every individual. It is knowledge about the motive and objective of life.
It gives us an ability of thinking and applying it to the world through practical manner and teaches us about the value of our existence. But now education is totally changed from its original form.
Things were going well, but suddenly there is a pause due to life-threatening corona pandemic. Pandemic was not a single health issue on a planet but also a political, economic and educational issue as well. There are many challenges ahead of us.
One massive challenge was, the learning process of 1.4 billion students around the globe including millions of Pakistani students.
Our students were already very unfortunate and unlucky regarding quality education. Pakistan’s lagging behind the world is also due to egregious and poor education. Deficient planning, gender gap among students, overweight of cost, low budget , unskilled teaching and learning method along poor infrastructure; these are problems we are facing since partition.
When this virus began to spread in Pakistan, initially the federal government closed all educational institutions across the country. This step was taken for maintaining the social distancing. Its seems a wisely approach according to the situation. Now no one knows, what will be next in later. The closure of educational institution meant that stopped the physical activities of child’s education and shifted them to distance learning education.
This was a stage when our whole education system have transform and shifted in a single digital device called mobile and laptop through internet.
Pakistan is already lagging behind in educational domain and sector due to huge inequalities and unfair treatment with issues with careless behavior regarding students. These are the problems which we already facing. As Pakistan is a developing country and majority of students here belongs to middle class families, they don’t have resources for digital learning. In fact these students don’t know a lot relevant to technology and online learning.
A large number of country’s students from remote areas and rural areas are disadvantaged due to lack of access and lack of awareness to digital device and internet so all students had their educational disrupted and discontinue. The question was, how students can continuous their educational activities. The transformation of educational system from physical to online virtually was a present’s need. But we were not ready for these circumstances, so the closure of educational institution is bad for this financial unguarded students.it was a biggest challenge for federal government. The private sector and research Centre should be a part and join hand with federal government to wipeout the crises.
One step was taken by federal board; they launched a “TELESCHOOL” which become single sources of education for millions of students. Tele school is broadcast on PTV in which they teach a course for grade 1 to grade 12 it is an accessible through the cable TV and website as well. It was a good move but government knew this itself that I was not a satisfactory change, because the continuous availability of electricity is also a problem. Especially when a whole system is paused then this single option cannot be effective and useful.
Much more things need to be done because we already facing a many educational inequalities. Corona pandemic aggravated the dilemmatic situation more. So this single initiative cannot handle the crises at all., we need an appropriate and powerful mechanism for online learning which will be easily accessible for all students including rural and remote area’s students , as majority of students which belong to rural and remote areas have no smartphone and digital devices and availability of internet is also deficient.
To ensure the resources within the range of students, the government should support and join hand to the telecommunication authorities and digital development sector to improve their data and internet availability across the country and design such online platform for distance learning which can be easily accessible for everyone without any distinction. These digital development companies should join hand with universities and other institutions to ensure that students are able to continuous their learning with proper manner and they have such digital platform to continuous their educational activities.
Conclusively it is also a good opportunity for our educational system and other development sector to improve their educational mechanism for future use.
Furthermore it will be also helpful after crises specially during smog. Current time give us an opportunity to construct a new frame of education. So we have to accept the realities and make our education system according to current requirement. It will also be useful in the future during crises and to some extent; student’s awareness and attraction about technology will also increase.
