There may be several people around you who are infected with the new Novel Corona Virus disease Covid-19 but are unaware of it.
The possibility was first mentioned in January by Chinese National Health Commission Minister Ma Xiaoyi, who said “that a person infected with the virus is likely to have no symptoms for one to 14 days, during which time it can spread to other people”. He said that due to this it is becoming difficult to stop the spread of the virus while its ability to be transmitted from one person to another is getting stronger.
Scientists have since proven this, and Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said in an interview: “Now we can confirm that a large number of Individuals do not show symptoms of the disease, and it can occur in 25% of cases”.
Researchers in Iceland have since reported that more than 50 percent of cases of the new novel Corona Virus were asymptomatic and came to light during large-scale testing in the country.
In another report, the CDC said researchers in Singapore had identified a number of cases in which the virus was transmitted from person to person without showing symptoms. A subsequent study found that people who did not show symptoms accounted for 44% of cases diagnosed with Corona Virus.
According to the study, the virus is more contagious in people when they do not have symptoms. Now, two more recent research reports indicate that as many patients with Corona Virus do not have symptoms as previously expected.
One study found that 104 out of 128 people (81%) on a cruise ship were diagnosed with the Corona Virus and showed no symptoms. In another study, researchers found that 42% of people with Covid-19 did not show symptoms.
According to Dr. Redfield, “such asymptomatic patients appear to be playing a major role in the spread of the virus and possibly transmit the virus to healthy people 48 hours before symptoms appear.”. He states, that it helps to understand why the virus is spreading so fast across the United States because asymptomatic patients are playing a major role in it.
How is the virus transmitted?
According to Dr. William Schiffner, an epidemiologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, “The idea of how respiratory viruses are quietly transmitted from one person to another is not surprising. If you are spreading the virus around in a seemingly healthy way, the number of victims will also increase. Once you get sick, your mobility will be limited”.
According to Dr. James Heldert, president of Mehri Medical College, the new Corona Virus began to spread from China in December and infected 2 million people in four months. “When you are exposed to such a virus, you have to take all possible steps to prevent it from spreading, because there are a lot of people who are spreading the virus, but they themselves are unaware of it”.
Why are face masks important?
The use of face masks was previously banned in the United States, but in early April the CDC began pushing for its use, with people being told to cover their faces with masks or clothes when going to public places.
In fact, the use of surgical masks is being prescribed there, and Dr. William Schaefner said that “surgical masks are effective in preventing the spread of the virus. There are two reasons why there is so much emphasis on face masks in the United States now,” said Dr. William Schaefner. Don’t let it become a problem for medical staff; the second reason is that the rate of transmission of the virus from one person to another without showing any symptoms has increased dramatically over time, which necessitates the use of masks”.
He believes that the use of face masks can have psychological benefits, even when the situation seems out of control. By wearing the mask, you are also protecting your family. When you see people around you wearing masks, it creates a sense of community.
